Reduce the size of a PC Board assembly with a chip and wire hybrid.
Hybridization can combine a variety of functions into a single package, which not only reduces the amount of PCB real estate required, but it will also reduce overall assembly costs, and improve reliability by simplifying the number of components and solder connections required which reduces stocking and inspection costs. Not only can significant size reduction be achieved, but the overall performance of the PCB assembly can be improved, especially in terms of speed and noise immunity.
As an example, an engineering prototype system consisting of three large modules like the one shown at right, was hybridized into a set of nine tiny hybrids. These combined a variety of functions including direct chip attach, SMT devices, and even microwave channelized filters.
